Edmond Bicycle Safety

  • Friday, July 30, 2010
  • Edmond police are promoting bicycle safety. "Bicycling in Edmond is growing in popularity, and recently we have been reminded of how dangerous the roadways can be when shared by vehicles and bicyclists,” said Glynda Chu, Edmond Police Department spokesperson.

In 2008, Edmond city officials adopted an ordinance modeled after a 2006 state ordinance about overtaking and passing bicyclists. The city ordinance requires drivers of motor vehicles to provide clearance of at least 3 feet when passing a bicycle traveling the same direction. More details here.

  •
Edmond's Hope Center plans to give away free school supplies to 1,500 Edmond students from August 2nd through the 26th.

Sales of pencils, paper, notebooks and backpacks usually are brisk during the first days of August as students get ready for a new school year. However hundreds of children would not be prepared for the first day of school without the help of Edmond's Hope Center through the generous donations of others.

The Hope Center will give away school supplies from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays beginning next week and continuing through Aug. 26. See here for more information.
